Participation of the Dominican Republic in the XVIIth Venice Architecture Biennial
The Dominican Republic participated in the XVIIth Venice Architecture Biennial with “CONEXIÓN”, a project by the artist Lidia León. As part of the activities organized around the exhibit, a day of intercultural dialogues was held at “La Central de Diseño de Madrid (Di_Mad)” cultural center, at El Matadero, in Madrid.
Event Details
The activities were held on September 21st starting at 17:30.
First Part: Dialogue on “How Will We Live Together?”
The first part of the event consisted of a dialogue between the architect and artist Lidia León and the Spanish architects Ester Higueras, Belén Moneo, and Oscar Torrejón on the question of “How will we live together?”, proposed by Hashim Sarkis, curator of the Venice Architecture Biennial.
Second Part: Panel “Revisiting Territory in Feminine”
In the second part, the panel “Revisiting Territory in Feminine” was presented, coordinated by architect Alex Martínez with the participation of Dominican architects Michelle Valdez, Mizoocky Mota, and Maribel Villalona; lawyers Yomayra Martinó and Romina Santroni; and the Spanish architect Almudena de Benito. During the conversations, the panelists addressed issues such as:
- Making situations visible in the planning of the territory throughout the pandemic
- Previous and post-Covid tourism models
- The recovery of tourism
- Environmental and legal aspects of territory planning in view of the challenges of economic growth and human development
Almudena de Benito closed the panel by reflecting on the issue of gender in the territory and invited the public to join in the conversation.
Event Organization
The event was organized by Di_Mad, led by the president of the Di_Mad Foundation, Isabel León, and the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in the Kingdom of Spain, led by His Excellency Ambassador and journalist Juan Bolívar Díaz, with the support of Minister Counselor Ligia Reid.
